A direct translation of your VBS code would look like this:

$strComputer = "."

$wbemServices = ObjGet("winmgmts:\\" & $strComputer)
$wbemObjectSet = $wbemServices.InstancesOf("Win32_LogicalMemoryConfiguration")

For $wbemObject In $wbemObjectSet
    ConsoleWrite( "Total Physical Memory (kb): " & $wbemObject.Name & @CR)

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble
