Hello, does anyone know where the current source code of the autoit resides? ... I managed to find one provided by ellysh, but it's outdated.

was closed sourced after that version.

No way! @Jon, why would you do that? And is there anything more recent than the released GitHub version?

since you haven't been here that long, I asked an AI to type it up ( laziness on my part ) :

AutoIt shifted from an open-source model (under the GNU General Public License) to a closed-source (freeware) model primarily due to issues surrounding code reuse, competition, and control by the original creators.

The primary factors behind the decision include:
  • Creation of Rival Projects: During the period when AutoIt v3 was open-source, other developers used elements of its codebase and source material to build competing automation languages and tools. Most notably, AutoHotkey was created after its developer requested features that weren't implemented, and it subsequently utilized portions of AutoIt's source/functions to establish its own engine before charting its own path as an open-source alternative.
  • Desire for Control: The core creator, Jon Bennett, and the development team grew frustrated seeing their work directly leveraged to spawn rival languages.
  • Protection of Intellectual Property: By locking down the source code (starting heavily around the transition to version 3.1.0 in early 2005), the creators could protect the core engine, maintain complete control over the project's direction, and prevent others from redistributing or modifying the official interpreter binary.
While AutoIt remains entirely free to use for personal and commercial purposes (including compiling scripts into standalone .exe files), the source code for the interpreter and compiler has remained proprietary ever since.

..so, there you have it. And expect this thread to be locked due to, tired of the same question over and over again.
