Wyleyrabbit
Hi Everyone, I need to write a script that will change which profile a user account is associated with. Also, I'd like to be able to allow a windows xp box to join a domain without losing their existing profile from their machine. How do I go about this? Thanks. jefhal
Are you on a domain? Is a user logging into the domain using one name and you want him to be able to choose which "profile" he gets? His login name will determine the profile. Are you using roaming profiles? Are you talking about the local profile or the profile on your profile server? I just don't get your intent. Please elaborate... :"> ...by the way, it's pronounced: "JIF"... Bob Berry --- inventor of the GIF format
Skruge
Welcome to the forums! I know you're new here, but I don't know your level of expertise with profiles and the registry... Profile info is in "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" Each subkey is based on the user's SID, which will be different between local accounts and domain accounts. Besides re-pointing, you'll need to handle NTFS permissions, groups, etc... *** WARNING *** Check HKU\<SID> before making any changes, to make sure the hive is properly unloaded. (Logging out doesn't always do it right away, and I've seen someone lose their entire profile due to this) Good luck!
