NatanS Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 When I try to install AutoIt from the download I receive the message "Error! You must have administrator rights to install this package." The message is coming from the install program, not from my PC. Anybody know how to avoid this? This looks like a powerful program! Thanks.

I've never seen it before. Some advice... When asking for help, or anything like what you've posted. Try to explain in detail what you've done step by step, what OS you are on, what permissions you have, and any other pertinent information you feel may apply to the current situation. Common sense plays a role in the basics of understanding AutoIt... If you're lacking in that, do us all a favor, and step away from the computer.
Somerset Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 So you're the admin on your PC?... I've never seen it before.Yeah i have seen it before, it means they are a user not an admin. Parental control or just idiot proofing from someone that is wise...
Thatsgreat2345 Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 yeah but you can easily beat that by downloading autoits zip package
NatanS Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 I'm on XP SP 2. Can't install the AutoIt download because of this error. Why should it check for admin rights? I do all our departmental programming but am not one of the high priests in the data center. I hoped someone had a version which skipped that step.

MHz Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I hoped someone had a version which skipped that step. The installer cannot write to the HKLM hive as for not having admin privilages. That is a limitation of Window rights and security.
