Sending keypress to a application

Ive searched for about 20 mins, cant find my answer.

I need to send a key to a application that is minimized/not active so the basic send function atleast to my knowledge is not enough.

I thought I knew the answer and tried searching for sending keypress and related but i havent found an answer.

I dont need to send mouse movements or clicks, I just need to send hotkeys.

Point me in the direction pls
