Can AutoIt 'read' text in a picture

For example, if you have a picture of the letter 'A', is there a way AutoIt would be able tell that it is an 'A'?

I want to know on a count that I have a window that apparently uses pictures for text and I need AutoIt to 'read' that text.

This technique is called OCR - Optical char recognition. Search for this, you will find a lot posts about that here.

I've searched through some of the previous posts, but it seems that AutoIt isn't fit as Optical character recognition. Is there another way I could do this or am I mistaken about that?

Just an idea, don't know if it applies or not but....

Is there a way to get to the source of the picture? By that, I mean if it's html and you hover over it, you may get a caption in the bottom info box on a browser that says like /images/2.html or 7.html.

Not often, but sometimes I see stuff like that.(If it's not one of those security pics)

It's not just a function to call, there are algorithms you must actually write, and definitions you must actually put in for recognition. It can be done, and done well, but it's more work than I'm sure you are willing to put forth (days/weeks/months maybe).

Oh well, the algorithms was the reason I was seeing if AutoIt had an easier way. Too bad...
