Record Visited Websites

9 posts in this topic

I am an Admin for a small school district and recently have been informed that I need to keep track of where the students go on the internet.

I'm hoping I can use AutoIt to record the url of each visited site and store them in a .txt file on a remote folder in a format like [date:time]:url

Any suggestions or ideas on where to look on how to start coding this ?

thanks !

Most routers have logging capabilities built in that you can use instead of having to script something. Check there first. If not, reply back and someone here can probably help you out...

No point in reinventing the wheel so-to-speak.

Thank you for the advice. However no-can-do. Thats why I'm hoping for a cheap solution using Autoit.

I know a bunch of new browser features were added, but i'm not familure with them at all.

I don't know how much help this could be, but maybe you could try using the _IEAttach function and get the URL.

; *******************************************************
; Example 1 - Attach to a browser with "AutoIt" in its title, display the URL
; *******************************************************
;
#include <IE.au3>
$oIE = _IEAttach ("AutoIt")
MsgBox(0, "The URL", _IEPropertyGet ($oIE, "locationurl"))

You could then take that URL and send it to a TXT file.

Does a proxy not do what you are after. It should log what sites have been visited, and the IP of the machine that went there.

It can do so much more to boot.

Perfect ! Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.

shiningduff, welcome to the forums, but not a great first post, necroposting in a 6 year old thread.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

shiningduff,

As we no longer allow allow AutoIt scripts such as keyloggers, etc to be discussed here, I have removed the link you posted to a commercial organisation specialising in this sort of thing. :)

And please look at the date of the thread before posting next - we take a dim view of those who regularly resurrect threads as old as this one. ;)
