UPS (backup power, not the carrier) Notification?

3 posts in this topic

Hi!

I just installed a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) on one of my PC's and I'm interested in setting up the Windows XP Pro's UPS services. The UPS provides battery backup for a PC, a router, a cable modem, and a Vonage Phone adapter.

The Windows XP's UPS service has a setting that lets you optionally execute a program when the UPS notifies Windows XP that the power is off. I would like to simply have Windows auto-send an email notification when this happens and then shut itself down. The shutdown is a function of the UPS service, so that's a no-brainer.

As far as the email notification, do you think this is something that would be appropriate for AutoIT or would it just be simpler to execute a Postie command?

Thanks!

You could use BLAT with AutoIt to send the email. (http://www.blat.net/)

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I forgot that Postis is not "free" but BLAT is. Thanks!
