how do i get the fileopen box to select folders rather than files, and how do i get an edit (guictrlcreateedit) that cannot be written over by the user?

You need to spend more time looking in the help file!

The Help for FileOpenDialog has a "Related" section.

The Help for GUiCtrlCreateEdit mentions styles.
