embedding a perl script

Recommended Posts

just wondering, is it possible to embed a perl script in AutoIt code?

AutoIt has no Perl interpreter, so it won't do anything with Perl code by itself. But you could kick off a Perl script using ShellExecute(). You could also file copy the Perl script from the AutoIt compiled executable with FileInstall().

What are you looking do with this "embedded" Perl script?

Well in fact you can... the ActiveScript implementation of Perl offers PerlScript that is avalaible through the COM ScriptControl. See here http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40525 for an example using Javascript... replace Javascript with PerlScript and add Perl syntax and you are on your way.

Doesn't work needs to be ripped out of the troubleshooting lexicon. It means that what you tried did not produce the results you expected. It begs the questions 1) what did you try?, 2) what did you expect? and 3) what happened instead?

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble

offcourse Dale's answer is better but you can see it like this:

any script is interpreted. .BAT is interpreted by CMD.EXE

.PL Scripts are interpreted by perl.exe, so you could say:

run('Interpreter Script.ext')

but as I said in your specific case I would investigate Dale's method.. this will benefit you alot more than learning how to call external apps from AutoIt...
