_StringGetWord() function

Recommended Posts

This is simple but useful.

Way back in the early days of Tidy JdeB wrote a GetFirstWord() function that he used in the script (maybe still does). I used that function in a lot of scripts. About a year ago I modified it to return any word in the string instead of just the first. I've been using it ever since.

Func _StringGetWord($iStr, $rWrd = 1)
    Local $aStr, $Rtn = ''
    $aStr = StringSplit (StringStripWS ($iStr, 3), " (" & @TAB)
    If $rWrd > $aStr[0] OR $rWrd < 1 Then Return $Rtn
    If $aStr[0] > 0 Then
        If StringInStr ($aStr[1], '#', 0, 2) > 1 Then
            $aStr[1] = StringLeft ($aStr[1], StringInStr ($aStr[1], '#', 0, 2) - 1)
            If $rWrd = 1 Then Return ($aStr[1])
        $Rtn = ($aStr[$rWrd])
    Return $Rtn
EndFunc   ;<===> _StringGetWord()

Example usage

$Str = "This is the string to test"
MsgBox(0,'TEST',_StringGetWord($Str));; Returns the first wortd (This)
MsgBox(0,'TEST',_StringGetWord($Str, 4));; Returns the fourth wortd (string)
