Regular Expressions...

Recommended Posts

Sorry not really an AutoIt problem, but I figure lots of people here should know about regular expressions...

So, say I have "tom: hello there"

I want to match "tom"

If I use '.*[^:]' it gives me the entire string

If I use '.*:' it gives me "tom:"

How do I do a one-liner that just gives me "tom"?

Edit:

A working example:(mind you, you don't need #include <array.au3> unless you are going to use something in that file as I am with _ArrayDisplay)

#include <array.au3>
$a = StringRegExp("tom: hello there", "^(.*?):", 3)
_ArrayDisplay($a)

Common sense plays a role in the basics of understanding AutoIt... If you're lacking in that, do us all a favor, and step away from the computer.
