Arrays?

I've been reading some posts about arrays, but since i'm not a very good programmer it's hard to understand how they work.

I understand arrays could shorten your script alot and would really like to understand how it's done.

Could some guru please give a simple example of a snippet without an array and then another snippet where that code is converted into an array.
