Read an benconded .dat file?

I don't really understand the bencoded stuff, anyway, I'm approaching my

problem from another angle. So, I'm going to try to

fetch data from an bencoded .dat file. First off, is it possible? :)

Certainly, if you know what version of BEncode is used. Its just ASCII characters (or perhaps UTF-8) in a certain pattern.

Well, found some pyth projects so far, will try to convert bits of it.
