getting movie file stats like length, default player

Im looking to write a program to make it easier to play dvds on my comp (shows pics + descriptions) but I also want it to show the movies length and other info if possible. Ive tried looking for some dll files on google but cant find what im looking for. Most are for playing the movies, all I want is the info about them.

Can anyone redirect to a post about that or help me find a dll I can use? I will keep looking but maybe someone knows where to look already...
