I'm not sure what you mean by the rest though. If you want to know what an executable does, there are lots of different programs that can give you hints, dependency walker, string extraction programs, etc. Short of reversing it with a dissassembler or debugger though, you pretty much have to run it to find out.

you can use regread to read the value in the registry, but only in the case which you have a value to look for
