Need help with TCP/IP and sending over a network

I am going to write a script so that I can send commands to another computer on my network and have a script receive those commands and perform actions based on the command sent.

I couldn't find many useful examples of this being done in the examples forum so I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction, because I have never used TCP/IP stuff before.
