Trouble getting text from a IE window

Recommended Posts

I am having trouble getting text from a Internet Explorer window.

The text is on a control (class = Internet Explorer_Server, instance = 1) I used the AutoIt v3 Window info tool to get this info.

I tried

$status = WinActivate("stock2own.com: My Watch Lists - Microsoft Internet Explorer", "")

msgbox(0,"text",$status)

$text = WinGetText("[CLASS:Internet Explorer_Server; INSTANCE:1]","")

msgbox(0,"text",$text)

and the winactivate functions works (returns 1)

but no text is returned by the WinGetText function (yet I see text on the screen)???

What Am I doing wrong.

Internet Explorer is not a standard windows control.

Use _IEBodyReadText instead (see IE Management in the UDF section of the helpfile).

Doesn't work needs to be ripped out of the troubleshooting lexicon. It means that what you tried did not produce the results you expected. It begs the questions 1) what did you try?, 2) what did you expect? and 3) what happened instead?

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble
