Is it possible to spin down the CDROM?

Stop the CD/DVD from spinning without sending an unload indicator. Like after you insert a CD the ROM spins up for a second and then stops. I need to stop it faster....I need to see if it is causing problems with another function because they are interacting with the CDROM as well (I need to stop the spinning before the other functions take place....or if there is a way to do a LOOP UNTIL the CDROM stops spinning).
