But you cant really do this as its not able to be protected particulary well.. Now this is a shame and will no doubt become an issue futher down the line... In terms of the "morality" of paying for something created with free software, well theres loads of precedence for that in reality .. anything created in commercial place (ie not just at home) that does something is actually being used commercially, wether you like it or not (perl etc ) ... and is helping the profit generation of those companies .. its just that you may not see it. These are great tools ... So there needs to be a method for getting the best of both worlds .... To sell a C++ or a VB program you need to have bought the software and are then free to do with it what you like ... All software really does is to allow the technical implemenation of functional problems at the end of the day. So it might be nice if Autoit had a commercial version, which developers paid for (small fee? ) that allowed them the ability to create "things" that they could sell ... This would probably need to have a better anti-crack device/system on it .... Really im saying that as a "developer" you woudl have a choice ... to pay for teh right to sell any stuff made with autoit ... Most of the things bought would be bought by companies anyway, for aroud the same price as 2 cups of coffee, so i dont see that it would be such a big issue ... All sounds quite fair to me

Either he ignored my PM's or misunderstood them. You don't have to pay PHP a thing to sell scripts, as far as I know. But mySQL charges you $200 a year for a license, I've heard. I would like to know if there are some people to contribute this way also? bedazzled Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 hmmmm ultimately i was just trying to get to a place where i could use autoit to make stuff i could sell safely ... cheapo shareware etc etc ... and I was ok with paying for the right to use autoit in that way ... if it could be made so that the source scripts were protected ... The c++ dll route .. compiled up with anti-crack protection on the top of that seems like the current way to go to make these things a reality I like Autoit a lot .... as a C migrated to perl programmer i like getting stuff done without having to worry too much about the mechanics of how the technology goes about it.... (true 4GL) ... Was thinking that the "commercial" right to sell stuff may help out with the licensing etc etc.... but it does not want to go down the route of perl2exe and the winbatch commercial versions.. which are really far too expensive to "take a chance on" etc etc Anybody remember the norton desktop? for windows 3.11 ... had a thing called scriptmaker .. that autoit has probably just surpassed ... was very good .. but would only run on windows boxes with that desktop installed ... not too much use apart from "in house" things ..... i built a whole heap of batch systems for the miserable firm i worked for at that time... as it was the only thing out there that would control guis at that time.... I just cant get on with vbs and the whole wsh stuff somehow .... the syntax is dreadfull if you dont want to fuss about OO all the time (please dont let Autoit get in a mess like that... ) keep it simple .. its what makes it useable ... would love to see the perl =~ regexp match and substitute operators $var =~ /regexp/ $var =~ s/reg1/reg2/[gi] implemented as per perl ... (same syntax) as they are what made perl a nice thing in the first place GuiControls for ALL windows is a logical (and good) next step ... jobs in shoe shops is also a logical and good next step
bedazzled Posted February 27, 2005 Author Posted February 27, 2005 re OO syntax (rant) ive never understood why the object must come before a function .. it makes it bloody difficult to read and use... why cant it come after the function you are interested in .. as its that which is the more important of the 2 at the end of the day... quite what owns it is secondary to getting the job done... msgbox__OBJECT (,,,) would have done it for example *sigh*

asik Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Anyone actually interested in protecting their AutoIt compiled scripts from being decompiled easily should look into obscure or modified versions of ASPack. Although ASPack can be cracked, it is definately not something that the an average cracker could handle as long as you're using an obscure version that doesn't have an unpacker available. www.aspack.com
