There is a function InternetGetConnectedState but it doesn't actually tell you that you have a connection to the internet only that you have a connection to the local network which is not the same.If the reason you ask about speed is that you are checking frequently and using a lot of your script's time then I have a udf which does the checking in a separate processs and so doesn't use up your scripts time.
