Auto sort large files into sized folders for burning?

Recommended Posts

I am considering sitting down to make something like this, but if something along these lines already exists, I'd love to know to save myself the time :D

I have a TON of movies on my computer. As I can only fit 5-6 or so on each DVD for backup, it would be nice to have a program that would just dump all of the things into folders labeled "DVD1", "DVD2", etc, such that it maximized efficiency by minimizing the amount of DVDs that will be used.

Should I pursue this? Or does a similar tool already exist?

Google "packing algorithm" for details on the problem.

However, DVDs are cheap and simply serially adding files to a "bin" (folder) until it doesn't have room within the limit for the next file is probably good enough.

:D

P.S. Looks like you might have accidentally double-posted this, please delete the dupe topic.
