Send UNIX minus sign or Hyphen

When i use the SEND command to UNIX putty session the minus sign or hyphen return blank or .(period)

Does anyone know how to use send to UNIX

Command is: ls -rlt /home/cm/files

When the send occurs it comes out as:

ls rlt /home/cm/files

or

ls .rlt /home/cm/files

The character set influences what is displayed on the screen. Characters are values.

You may be sending the wrong hyphen though.
