Program to track my mails?

I know there are some programs already that do that but i wanted to make 1 program to check my yahoo mail continiously and make a repeatable sound when it finds an email(not spam email).Also i want it to do that sound immidiately after mail has arrived not after some time. Any ideas how can i start, what commands i ll need and how i ll contact yahoo?
