run a script on program termination

Another hook-related problem...

Looking for a method to run a script when a particular process is terminated, other than periodically polling for the presence of that process or window.

I can't imagine that I'm the first person to want to do this, so either I fail at searching, or it can't be done. Hoping for the former.
