Creating a silent installation of a program

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I've got a utility program that doesn't have any kind of automation or silent install option. So, I've used AutoIt script that basically takes care of mouse clicks on various stage of the installation wizard. It works great, at least so far on Windows XP SP3 has been tested.

When the script is run, it installs the utility without prompting to make a decision on the installation wizard. However, it doesn't really work if nobody is logged into the computer.

Here's the script I have. I'm new to AutoIt, so I'd appreciate if you can help automating this install process or suggest anything. Only the first line gets executed if nobody is logged into the computer.

Run("\\network_share_name\NECProjector\IEU_Lite_Inst.exe")

WinWaitActive("Image Express Utility Lite Installer")

Send("!a")

WinWaitActive("Image Express Utility Lite Installer")

ControlClick("Image Express Utility Lite Installer", "Start Image Express Utility Lite", 1007)

ControlClick("Image Express Utility Lite Installer", "OK", 1)

Without a visible desktop, there's no window for WinWaitActive to see, because the window will never be active. Look at this Wiki article from the FAQ on how to handle that. Also, do a search on it as there have been many threads about this same topic, which is why it's a Frequently Asked Question entry.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Thanks for your reply. I actually just noticed the FAQ link shortly after posting this question. I was browsing through the Function references before posting here, but must've missed these. I'll try to use something else instead of WinWaitActive function. Obviously that won't work if the computer is locked. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it to work.
