hi guys ,

as usual i need your help to complete my script

the question is on fileopen function

Below the simple code

$file = FileOpen("test.txt", 10)

If $file = -1 Then
MsgBox(0, "Error", "Unable to open file.")
Exit
EndIf

msgbox ( 0,"", $file )

FileClose($file)

ok on my message box i have 1 and not file name . Is there a way to have on $file variable the name of the file ( in my case test.txt)?

Thanks for your help

FileOpen returns a file HANDLE not a file name. If you set the file name to a variable first, you can then use that later in your fileopen command

$FileName = "test.txt"
$file = FileOpen($FileName, 10)

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

anybastard,

In case you are interested the "1" is the file handle allcoated by Windows to the open file. ;)

As to the name - you have to have the name to open the file, so why not put it in a variable and use it again: :)

$sFile = "test.txt"

$Hile = FileOpen($sFile, 10)

If $hFile = -1 Then
MsgBox(0, "Error", "Unable to open file.")
    Exit
EndIf
MsgBox(0, "Opened", $sFile)

FileClose($hFile)

Or am I missing something? :graduated:

Same answer as before, assign the file name to a variable and use that variable in the FileOpen command.
