Hi, I'm working on a little script which controls uTorrent.exe on my homeserver (slow down the upload speed when my laptop or other devices go online, removes the upload limit when no one else is online in the network, updates the ipfilter.dat and also writes all those things into some log file which I display on my servers-desktop via rainmeter). My problem is: I want the logfile (currently log.ini) to display the newest entries first.

Is there any way to do so?

Thanks

aphesia,

As far as I know Windows puts new entries at the end of ini files. If you want them in a particular order then I fear you are going to have to rewrite the file yourself. :)

I think an .ini file is not realy covenient for a log file, is it ?

Because I'm practising a litte bit, I just wrote this piece of code for you, maybe it's useful.

It will always write to the beginning of a file.

#include <Constants.au3>
#include <Date.au3>

Local Const $sFile = "test.txt"
Local $hFile

; Open for reading
$hFile = FileOpen($sFile, 0)

; Check if file opened
If $hFile = -1 Then
    MsgBox(0, "Error", "Unable to open file.")
    Exit
EndIf

; Get old logdata
$logdata = FileRead($hFile)
FileClose($hFile)

; Open for writing
$hFile = FileOpen($sFile, 2)
If $hFile = -1 Then
    MsgBox(0, "Error", "Unable to open file.")
    Exit
EndIf

; Your new log data
$str = "new log data"

; Get the time
$time = _Now()

; Make the new log string
$str = $time & " - " & $str & @CRLF
$logdata = $str & $logdata

; Write something to the file.
FileWrite($hFile, $logdata)

; Flush the file to disk.
FileFlush($hFile)

; Close the handle.
FileClose($hFile)

Thanks, it works just perfectly for my needs :) I just wonder if this will also work with an .txt file that is 5-20MB ?

If you want to insert text at the beginning of a file, you will have to move the whole old data, so it is slow. That's the reason why all logfiles have the most recent entries at the end of the file since this doesn't touch the old data.
