Does recursing a function make a bug?

7 posts in this topic

what if I recurse a function which uses variables? Will they be compromised?

Example: if the function is

Func Recursive()
If $k<10 then
$k=$k+1
Recursive()
Else
Exit
EndIf
EndFunc

will this function be an infinite loop, resetting $k every time? Or will it run 10 times, then stop, because the value of $k is "inherited"?

GiulioM,

Have you tried? ;)

Put a ConsoleWrite($k) before your Recursive() call and try it. If it doesn't work, just stop the script.

Whenever someone says "pls" because it's shorter than "please", I say "no" because it's shorter than "yes".

Well, it "works" - the variables are inherited.

GiulioM,

Not so fast, young grasshopper. :)

It depends whether the variable is Global or Local - try commenting out the different lines:

Global $k = 0

Recursive()

Func Recursive()

    ;Local $k = 0

    If $k < 10 Then
        $k = $k + 1
        ConsoleWrite("Entering: k = " & $k & @CRLF)
        Recursive()
    Else
        Exit
    EndIf
EndFunc   ;==>Recursive

So you can see it all depends. ;)
