Pin url link/shortcut to start menu

7 posts in this topic

Would probably push this to several computers on a network.  It doesnt seem like theres a pin function after researching the help file, so is the best way to create a user defined function for something like this?  Im sure there are more ways than one.  Also, would it require setting a registry value?  The URL/shortcut would be similar to..say..the internet explorer pin when you hit the windows button or start menu.

Thanks in advance!

Try this script. It will pin the Calculator shortcut to the Start menu as a demonstration.

Global Const $CSIDL_COMMON_PROGRAMS = 0x17
Global Const $CSIDL_PROGRAMS = 0x2
Global $objShell = ObjCreate("Shell.Application")
Global $objAllUsersProgramsFolder = $objShell.NameSpace($CSIDL_COMMON_PROGRAMS)
$strAllUsersProgramsPath = $objAllUsersProgramsFolder.Self.Path
Global $objFolder = $objShell.Namespace($strAllUsersProgramsPath & "\Accessories")
Global $objFolderItem = $objFolder.ParseName("Calculator.lnk")
Global $colVerbs = $objFolderItem.Verbs
For $objVerb in $colVerbs
    If stringReplace($objVerb.name, "&", "") = "Pin to Start Menu" Then $objVerb.DoIt
Next

Create the shortcut, then pin it. You can't do it directly as far as I'm aware.

Thank you sir.

BTW, here's a tip. Once you create the shortcut and then pin it where you want it, you can delete the original shortcut and the pinned item will still work. This way you don't have to keep the original shortcut if you don't need it, it can be just a temporary one.
