Function cannot re-declare global variable?

7 posts in this topic

Hello all I don't know if I should support this as a bag or not, but in the latest beta when I set a global variable, then attempt to re-declare it with a function called via a hotkey, the variable does not change. Observe with the following code below:

Global $broadcastingxx = 0

HotKeySet("^b", "_go")

while 1
    sleep(5)
    ConsoleWrite($broadcastingxx&@CRLF)
WEnd

func _go()
    $broadcastingxx = 1
EndFunc
Edit: Nevermind, this behavior only seems to occur in my larger script. Edited by nullschritt

Hi,

Your script works...

Btw, the min value for the sleep function is 10.

Okay well I didn't know the minimum sleep was 10, but I realized the reason why it appeared the variable was not getting set in my larger script, thanks for the response though. Edited by nullschritt

nullschritt,

To teh best of my knowledge, if you use any positive integer below 10 as the parameter for Sleep, AutoIt will still pause for aproximately 10ms. So there is no real harm done if you do use 5 - but you might wonder why things take a bit longer than you thought they would. :)

Sleep(0) is a special case which merely gives up the next timeslice allocated to the process. This could mean an almost instant return if nothing much else is happening - which could lead to the CPU getting a bit hot, so it is best to avoid using that value. ;)
