Start Notepad ?

12 posts in this topic

Is there a way to star notepad, write something then save it ? something like:

Run ("notepad.exe")
WinWaitActive("Untitled - Notepad")
$sM = 12345
$sP = dmiawenfawe@gmail.com
$sPh = +17388273

Send ($sM, $sP, $sPh)

[THEN SAVE IT]

Is there a way ? thanks in advanced

There's no need to use Notepad for this, just do a FileWrite to the file you want the text in.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Example of gui manipulation...takes into account the PID of the running instance, to properly grab the window.

#include <WinAPI.au3>
Local $hNotepad1,$hNotepad2,$hNotePad1Edit,$hNotePad2Edit
$iPID1 = Run ("notepad")
$iPID2 = Run ("notepad")

While True
    $a = WinList("[CLASS:Notepad]")
    For $i = 1 To UBound($a)-1
        Local $iCurrentPID
        _WinAPI_GetWindowThreadProcessId($a[$i][1],$iCurrentPID)
        If Not IsHWnd($hNotepad1) And $iCurrentPID = $iPID1 Then
            $hNotepad1=$a[$i][1]
        EndIf
        If Not IsHWnd($hNotepad2) And $iCurrentPID = $iPID2 Then
            $hNotepad2=$a[$i][1]
        EndIf
    Next
If IsHWnd($hNotepad1) And IsHWnd($hNotepad2) Then ExitLoop
WEnd

While True
    If Not IsHWnd($hNotePad1Edit) Then $hNotePad1Edit = ControlGetHandle($hNotepad1,"",15)
    If Not IsHWnd($hNotePad2Edit) Then $hNotePad2Edit = ControlGetHandle($hNotepad2,"",15)
If IsHWnd($hNotePad1Edit) And IsHWnd($hNotePad2Edit) Then ExitLoop
WEnd

ControlSetText($hNotepad1,"",$hNotePad1Edit, "SomeText1")
ControlSetText($hNotepad2,"",$hNotePad2Edit,  "SomeText2")

; Set more text
ControlSetText($hNotepad1,"",$hNotePad1Edit, ControlGetText($hNotepad1,"",$hNotePad1Edit) & @CRLF & "SomeMoreText1")
ControlSetText($hNotepad2,"",$hNotePad2Edit, ControlGetText($hNotepad2,"",$hNotePad2Edit) & @CRLF & "SomeMoreText2")

Like mentions above, filewrite is easier :).  Script takes into consideration the window sometimes take a split second to exist, and same is true of the edit control, after the window does exist.

elmoi0010,

Look in the help file and see if you can find a function that looks as if it might have something to do with writing to a file. When you have found it, read the relevant page and see if it is the one you want. ;)

P.S. If you get stuck look here:

It is called

FileWrite. ;)

Yes, notice the 2 runs (2 notepads)...just a demonstration of working with multiple windows, which can be modified to work with 1.

Mouse on the functions, and press F1 to open the helpfile, to see what's doing what.

You can find the FileWrite function, and a bunch of other useful stuff, in the Help file.  :graduated:
