Hello,

I need a function can retrive the file type ( not the extension, .txt or .jpg but the file type like Text Document ) and i need it very fast :D

This is what i have:

$MyFile = @ScriptDir & "\MyHiddenFile.txt"
FileDelete($MyFile)
FileOpen($MyFile, 2)

MsgBox(0, 0, "WORK: " & _GetFileType($MyFile))

FileSetAttrib($MyFile, "H")

MsgBox(0, 0, "NOT WORK: " & _GetFileType($MyFile))

Func _GetFileType($Path)
If Not FileExists($Path) Then Return False
    Local $oShell = ObjCreate("Shell.Application")
    $SplitFolder = StringSplit($Path, "\")
    For $Obj In $oShell.NameSpace(StringTrimRight(StringReplace($Path, $SplitFolder[$SplitFolder[0]], " "), 1)).Items
        If $Obj.Path = $Path Then
            Return $Obj.Type
            ExitLoop
        EndIf
    Next
EndFunc   ;==>_GetFileType
As you can see work for normal file but not for hidden file and i don't have idea why.

Solution?

Edit: With i "need it very fast" i mean the function not the answer, i don't want to be missunderstood ;)

My rewrite of _FileGetProperty will work with it (see signature).

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.
