Does autoit work with linux?

Recommended Posts

I saw this:

"AutoIt v3 is a freeware BASIC-like scripting language designed for automating the Windows GUI.... "

but that doesn't really say if it does or not.

I wanna make something for a Linux user. will autoit work for him? would i have to send him the compiled exe of it will that work?

No. Quote from here:

http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.ph...st&p=241289

  • AutoIt for other operating systems: First and foremost, AutoIt is a Windows application. It's meant to fill a need in a Windows environment. Mac and Linux/Unix have different needs and their own tools as well. Also, there isn't much overlap in OS capabilities as far as AutoIt is concerned. Even if AutoIt was ported to a different OS, it would be AutoIt in name only. It's unlikely that the functionality provided would mirror AutoIt on Windows. As for Windows CE, while it's true that it is in the Windows family, programming for Windows CE is pretty different than for the Desktop. It's different enough that for a program like AutoIt which heavily relies on Windows internal workings, Windows CE is a completely different operating system.

No, AutoIt not designed for other OS except Windows.

And on linux (without any additions like Wine) there is no exe files :) - there is some other system.

Currently I'm running AutoIt+Scite on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04...+Wine and as MscreatoR says

No, AutoIt not designed for other OS except Windows.

Don't expect too much, GUI works, but automation, that's another history... "system calls" are entirely different

Some of my scripts here do run on Linux using WINE,but any functionality eg interacting with othe programs, is gone.
