Hooking Window creation

10 posts in this topic

I'm trying to get notification of a new window. I need to do a check to see if certain windows exist and the react to them. I could sit in a loop with if WinExists() then If WinExists() then etc etc but this is a bit messy because the window will appear at some pont but it could be anytime.

This is what I have so far but I'm not sure why it doesn't work, it's based on a mouse hook code which works fine I just changed the code for the type of hook.

Any ideas?

Thanks

$hNewWin = DllCall("user32.dll", "ptr", "SetWindowsHookEx", "int", $WH_CBT, "ptr", DllCallbackGetPtr($pNewWin), "ptr", 0, "dword", $hModule)
$hNewWin = $hNewWin[0]

Hi! Try this:

#include <WinAPI.au3>

;Global Const $WH_CBT = 5
Global Const $HCBT_CREATEWND = 3

$hModule = DllCall("kernel32.dll", "ptr", "GetModuleHandle", "ptr", 0)
$hModule = $hModule[0]
$pNewWin = DllCallbackRegister ("_WinCreate", "long", "int;ptr;ptr")

$hNewWin = DllCall("user32.dll", "hwnd", "SetWindowsHookEx", "int", $WH_CBT, "ptr", DllCallbackGetPtr($pNewWin), "hwnd", 0, _
                    "dword", _WinAPI_GetCurrentThreadId())
$hNewWin = $hNewWin[0]

GUICreate("Test")

GUISetState()

Do
Until GUIGetMsg() = -3

Func OnAutoitExit()
    DllCall("user32.dll", "int", "UnhookWindowsHookEx", "ptr", $hNewWin)
    DllCallBackFree ($pNewWin)
EndFunc

Func _WinCreate($nCode, $wParam, $lParam)
    If $nCode < 0 Then Return _CallNextHookEx($hNewWin, $nCode, $wParam, $lParam)

    If $nCode = $HCBT_CREATEWND Then ConsoleWrite("New Window created " & @crlf)
EndFunc ;==>_WinCreate

Func _CallNextHookEx($hhk, $nCode, $wParam, $lParam)
    Local $aTmp = DllCall("user32.dll", "long", "CallNextHookEx", "hwnd", $hhk, "int", $nCode, "wParam", $wParam, "lParam", $lParam)
    Return $aTmp[0]
EndFunc ;==>_CallNextHookEx

Note: you can hook only autoit own windows.

Thanks Larry, Is that going to be the only way? I know you can use the GlobalModuleHandle on the keyboard and mouse hook but it doesn't seem to work on the WH_CBT.

I'm not against using the dll, just wondered if there is another way.

Hi,

Siao did a nice and simple way of registering shell hook to your autoit gui.

I haven't got a link to thread I got the code from, but here's his code.
