Akshay07 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I am trying to replace an existing registry value (which is a string) by another one. The following doesn't work, any idea why ? RegWrite("KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001", "UserInit", "REG_SZ", $modifiedValue) Thanks
Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted March 13, 2013 Moderators Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) As always, the help file is your friend. RegWrite returns a number of values to show you just went wrong, have you tried any of them? Something simple like: RegWrite("KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001", "UserInit", "REG_SZ", $modifiedValue) MsgBox(0, "", @error) Edited March 13, 2013 by JLogan3o13 "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind. Developers Jos Posted March 13, 2013 Developers Posted March 13, 2013 Have you checked the returned value and error code for RegWrite? Akshay07 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Thanks guys, I am still not used to check @error. It returns 2, which is "unable to open requested main key" If I make the change from DOS using "reg add", I have no problem.
LarryDalooza Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 #requireadmin ... and I am not a big fan of people asking how to change this key value as it is known to be a virus creator's favorite... Lar. AutoIt has helped make me wealthy
BrewManNH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 You also might try using HKEY instead of KEY. Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted March 13, 2013 Moderators Posted March 13, 2013 Worse yet I broke my own rule and copied code instead of writing it out myself. BrewManNH Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Because registry keys are already so long, it's usually easier for me to just use HKLM or HKCU instead of typing out the whole thing. You'll also notice right away if you've missed a letter, because it's easier to see it. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. aleph01 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Well, we all do stupid things from time to time, but that doesn't mean we're stupid. Besides, I really like your signature, JLogan3o13. Meds. They're not just for breakfast anymore.
