WinGetState no longer working?

5 posts in this topic

#include <MsgBoxConstants.au3>

Example()

Func Example()
    ; Run Notepad
    Run("notepad.exe")

    ; Wait 10 seconds for the Notepad window to appear.
    Local $hWnd = WinWait("[CLASS:Notepad]", "", 10)

    ; Retrieve the state of the Notepad window using the handle returned by WinWait.
    Local $iState = WinGetState($hWnd)

    ; Check if the Notepad window is minimized and display the appropriate message box.
    If BitAND($iState, 16) Then
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "Notepad is minimized and the state returned by WinGetState was - " & $iState)
    Else
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "", "Notepad isn't minimized and the state returned by WinGetState was - " & $iState)
    EndIf

    ; Close the Notepad window using the handle returned by WinWait.
    WinClose($hWnd)
EndFunc   ;==>Example

The above example is provided in the docs, yet when I run it, no matter what state the window is in, I get -23 as the status. I also tried making a custom scrit to test diff states, but still get the same result. ( I used code from the example above)

#include <MsgBoxConstants.au3>
Run("notepad.exe")
global $hWnd = WinWait("[CLASS:Notepad]", "", 10)
HotKeySet("{F10}", "Example")
HotKeySet("{F11}", "Kill")
while 1
;
wend
Func Example()
$iState = WinGetState($hWnd)
MsgBox(0, "", "the state returned by WinGetState was - " & $iState)
EndFunc
func kill()
WinClose($hWnd)
exit
endfunc

I'm sure I am missing something here, but is there maybe a UDF that handles this better, or some example code someone has to make this easier?

Thanks in advance

Kovacic,

The example works perfectly for me - the function returns 23 when minimized, 47 when maximized and 15 when neither. :)

BTW, you're not getting -23, you're getting 23, the hyphen is in the text for the message box.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

HA! I feel like an idjit..

I really have no idea why this is happening then. I have had similar problems with the computers in my work environment. There has to be something in windows causing this then.

I appreciate your time then.

Much thanks!
