Create input with preselected text

6 posts in this topic

Well I need to create a gui with an inputbox and some buttons. Thats easy.

The problem is that I want to "guess" what the user wants to enter in the inputfield( the guessing is easy, the getting the text in the input box is easy) but if i guess wrong, it should not "interupt" the user, so I want the text to be "selected" so if he/she starts typing the text gets deleted, instead of the the user has to delete my guess text...

Added screenshot of what I have and what I want

Try

$input = GUICtrlCreate("my input"..............)

At what ever point you want to insert it

GUICtrlSetState($input, 512)

That should set the focus on $input

Yes that gives the focus to the input, but it doesn't "select" the text, so the user still have to manually delete the text / mark it, if the he/she wishes to change it

GUICtrlCreateInput is an 'Edit' control

so use _GuiCtrlEdit functions

modified from helpfile example

3.2.8.1 _GUICtrlEditSetSel

3.2.9.10 > _GUICtrlEdit_SetSel

3.2.8.1 needs GUICtrlSetState($input, $GUI_FOCUS) to select text at runtime otherwise text unselected

$ES_NOHIDESEL style needed for select to work

#include <GUIConstants.au3>
#include <GuiEdit.au3>

$gui = GUICreate(" GUI Input", 320,120, @DesktopWidth/2-160, @DesktopHeight/2-45, -1, 0x00000018)
$input = GUICtrlCreateInput( "Your guess is as good as mine", 10,  5, 300, 20, $ES_NOHIDESEL)
;GUICtrlSetState($input, $GUI_FOCUS)
$btn = GUICtrlCreateButton ("Press To Select Text", 20, 75, 150, 20)

GUISetState ()

$msg = 0
While $msg <> $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
       $msg = GUIGetMsg()
       Select
           Case $msg = $btn
        ;_GUICtrlEdit_SetSel($input, 0, -1)
        _GUICtrlEditSetSel($input, 0, -1)
       EndSelect
Wend

I see fascists...

You can also use this:

ControlFocus($gui, "", $input)
ControlSend($gui, "", $input, "^{HOME}^+{END}")

:)
