GUICtrlSetData confusion

Hello from a new user of AutoIt. Please help me straighten out a small bit of confusion about the correct parameters used for calling the GUICtrlSetData function. I am learning about combo controls and how to fill them with data using GUICtrlSetData, and I notice in the online documentation for GUICtrlSetData it states that the first parameter should be the control identifier of component that is receiving the items to be added, however in the example shown, and in many posts in this forum a parameter of -1 is often used. Why the discrepancy? Is there other documentation that I have missed?

Aha! That makes loads of sense, and many thanks for helping me out and so quickly too!

Now if only there were a page here on how to code in AutoIt from a Java programmer's perspective...

Experience has also taught me to only use -1 on controls that have not been declared as a variable, otherwise use the variable name instead.

This works fine.

GUICtrlCreateLabel()
GUICtrlSetColor(-1, 0x000000)

This works

$label = GUICtrlCreateLabel()
GUICtrlSetColor(-1, 0x000000)

This is better

$label = GUICtrlCreateLabel()
GUICtrlSetColor($label, 0x000000)
