nitekram 68 Posted January 19, 2011 I tried to post this the other day, but forum would not allow me to post - hosting issues i assume. But my question is still in my mind, just not the link. So i see a few post here and there that the script must be compiled before it can be used. My question is why? Better question would be an example (short and to the point) of a script that needs to be compiled first before it can be used. I am just trying to see why or how a script would need to be compiled first - thanks 2¢All by me:"Sometimes you have to go back to where you started, to get to where you want to go." nitekram 68 Posted January 19, 2011 I assume (you know what that means) that it should just run the path, but since it does not contain an EXE then i guess nothing would happen. 2¢All by me:"Sometimes you have to go back to where you started, to get to where you want to go." kylomas 416 Posted January 19, 2011 Jos, The script will recurse itself? (if not, what are you driving at?) Jos 2,210 Posted January 19, 2011 Correct so this simple example will only work properly when the string in @FullScriptPath represents am executable thus it needs to be a compiled script or else it will contain script.au3. taietel 34 Posted January 19, 2011 nitekram, one possible answer to your first question: because you can not use the resources (bitmaps, text, etc. if the final exe has them). M.I. Zedna 279 Posted January 19, 2011 Another limitation is if you use resources. In that case you need to run only compiled EXE too. Resources UDF ResourcesEx UDF AutoIt Forum Search

BrewManNH 1,305 Posted January 19, 2011 What should happen, if it's not compiled, is probably nothing. If it's compiled, it will just keep opening itself, close and then open itself again etc. etc. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. KaFu 295 Posted January 20, 2011 Another one would be my It's using a Run() command to DeElevate and additionally a Windows Standard RegKey pointing to the exe if you chose "autoelevate". If you would start the script from SciTE4 it would write the scripts location to the Reg (.au3), but start autoit.exe to run, so the process would not match the RegKey and Windows would not autoelevate it.
