Making a more universal script

As I'm getting more use to using autoit and enjoying practicing and learning new things I thought I'd ask friends to give me some ideas for things they could possibly need automated but then I realized that I'm unsure if that would even work. At this time I seem to use a lot of pixelsearch to make sure the program isn't just wildly clicking with random timers and it works out great, but if I was to make something for someone else and they had a different resolution or possibly because I have adblock then some websites may be positioned slightly different to me such as hotmail, forums, etc.

So I'm curious if there is some kind of work-around to all this or if there's a command that would be much more accurate than pixelsearch, or if I'm just going to have to ask for their monitor resolution and use it while I make their script. Of course this is only a problem if mouseclicks are involved but I am curious none the less.

Try to write scripts independant of monitor resolutions!

How to do this depends on the task you try to automate.

There are many UDFs (User Defined Functions) available with AutoIt or on the forum which will help you.

Give us an example on what you try to do and we can point you into the right direction.

Well my friend is a sales manager at a store and is constantly receiving sales reports so he asked me if I could do something along of lines of, watching his hotmail account and any time it spots an email with his work's name (I guess they all have the subject as the name of the store?) that it would take that email and push it into a folder for him so he can easily get to them when he's away from his computer/phone. The idea is to keep this running constantly at home because he never turns his computer off anyways and apparently he gets quite a bit of emails and would rather not sift through it all.

most likely firefox or google chrome but I'm sure I can get him to just use IE for this, regardless, not using outlook.

Use the "Advanced Search" feature of this forum and search for "hotmail" in the thread title only. You will get a lot of hits that should you get started.

Here is a link to the Haven't used it myself but maybe it gives you an idea how to do it for hotmail.
