making 2 variables from comma seperated data

I have data that gets returned from an outside app that has 2 datafields that are seperated with a comma i.e. data1,data2.

How would I go about defining the data before the comma to a variable i.e. $Var1 and after the comma $Var2 ?

I did end up finding 'StringSplit' before posting but couldn't figure how to make it do what I wanted to. I am sure the example you mention should help me piece it together.
