donflinn Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 The Function Reference for _Excel_SheetActivate is missing from v3.3.12.0 Help. Does this function still exist as it did in v3.3.8.1? Are there other missing Function References? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
BrewManNH Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 The help file has a list of the changes made to the Excel UDF. Look in the Contents tab, History/ChangeLog there's a link to script breaking changes. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. water Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 The wiki should give you an idea how to code the missing function yourself. donflinn Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share Posted September 17, 2014 Yes, the Excel UDF - Script Breaking Changes indicate the function still exists, but there is no Function Reference for _Excel_SheetActivate. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
BrewManNH Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 The function isn't in the current Excel UDF, and it's not mentioned in the help file other than in the script breaking changes page for the Excel UDF. donflinn Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share Posted September 17, 2014 Water, Just saw your reference to Wiki, and found that _Excel_SheetActivate was removed, and what to substitute in its place. It would be helpful to us occasional programmers to be able to find this information in the Help file. Thank you for your response. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
iamtheky Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Ive probably left this pile of sentiment on someones doorstep before but: It would be more helpful to just leave the functions. Just because something is only one line, does not make any less useful. I imagine many of the UDFs have very useful one line actions (gdiplus.au3 comes to mind), moreso I would think the goal of the UDF is to wrap all the reasonably useful methods possible. It makes it hella easier when every action against an excel object is prefaced with _Excel and nice to have the pop up reminder of the parameters required. ,-. .--. ________ .-. .-. ,---. ,-. .-. .-. .-. |(| / /\ \ |\ /| |__ __||| | | || .-' | |/ / \ \_/ )/ (_) / /__\ \ |(\ / | )| | | `-' | | `-. | | / __ \ (_) | | | __ | (_)\/ | (_) | | .-. | | .-' | | \ |__| ) ( | | | | |)| | \ / | | | | | |)| | `--. | |) \ | | `-' |_| (_) | |\/| | `-' /( (_)/( __.' |((_)-' /(_| '-' '-' (__) (__) (_) (__) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I imagine many of the UDFs have very useful one line actions (gdiplus.au3 comes to mind), moreso I would think the goal of the UDF is to wrap all the reasonably useful methods possible. It makes it hella easier when every action against an excel object is prefaced with _Excel and nice to have the pop up reminder of the parameters required. The Excel UDF was completely rewritten to support new file formats and new features of Microsoft Excel. The design was completely changed. The old UDF only worked with the active Worksheet and only with the active Workbook. It didn't support the new file formats etc. So script breaking changes were inevitable. Activating a sheet was no longer needed for the core function of the UDF because you now specify the sheet to work with as a parameter. The subject of one line functions (after removing all the parameter error checking) has been discussed with trancexx and it was decided to drop them. I know that moving from the old to the new UDF causes some extra work but I think it is worth the effort.
