Working with ShellExecute

When I am running the ShellExecute as ShellExecute('"C:\abcd\msi\ADVInstaller.msi"', '/q') it is installing but when I am saving the path in path variable and executing as 
 ShellExecute(&$path, '/q').

It is not installing the msi, please suggest where I am doing wrong.

then how else I have to execute that, I am getting the msi silent commands in an excel, so need to read them and then append them with the physical location of those msis

Though that was already done. Is it correct to assume you have set $path=$path="C:\abcd\msi\ADVInstaller.msi", so the script will look like:

$path="C:\abcd\msi\ADVInstaller.msi"
ShellExecute($path, '/q')

Did you try that?
