Here a link to some code to perform a safe removal of a usb device. Unfortunately it's not somethin I can translate into AutoIt, but maybe another smart person can, will?

Interesting. I'd expect this method to actually remove the device, like how the safely remove icon does. I end up with an ejected drive instead. That works just as good since the device cannot be written to when it's ejected. I figured it would remove it though. Oh well.
