I have a script which installs in the Program Files directory and it uses an .ini file to set its settings.

Changing the settings using the .ini file works fine on XP but does not seem to work on Vista, could it be due to UAC? Disabling UAC and the restarting the computer seems to solve the problem but isn't the best solution.

Is there another way to do this without disabling UAC everytime the script wants to change a value in the .ini file using IniWrite?

Try a different directory, Program Files Directory in Vista and Win 7 are protected from File writing (same as IniWrite)

Change permissions to your INI-file and everything will work, only that you need to have administrator rights.

Programs must keep its settings in the user profile folder, and not in Program Files. This is the main problem for most of the "old" programs.

But the .ini file has no read-only attribute... and I am the admin
