Funky file and ini

4 posts in this topic

#cs

FileOpen() and IniWrite() don't open or create files.

I get "FAILED" msgbox. Hmmmmmmm

#ce

$var = IniWrite("C:\Temp\myfile.ini", "section2", "key", "this is a new value")

If $var = 1 Then

MsgBox(0,"","SUCCESS")

ElseIf $var = 0 Then

MsgBox(0,"","FAILED")

EndIf

What are the possibilities that would cause this? FileOpen() doesn't open files visually either, but I noticed it will open invisible mode because FileWrite() will write to file (invisible mode). Im using v3.3.6.1 and my OS is XP Pro.

IniWrite can't write (open) a file if the folder doesn't exist. FileOpen can't do it either unless you include the optional mode flag 8. Also, FileOpen won't create the file even if the folder exists unless you add the mode flag 2. So, to use FileOpen to create the folder structure and the file you'd need to use mode 10 (8+2).

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Maybe the file is locked by another program. Could you please try to write to another ini file?

Maybe the disk is full. Can you try to write to another disk?

Thank you, This was a misunderstanding the remarks in AutoIT Help on IniWrite, "If file does not exist, it is created. Any directories that do not exist, will not be created." I figured out that this is incorrect. :x
