Hi.

Is there some function (or UDF) that can be used to reveal, which currently running process is using (=blocking) a certain COM port?

If it's in the help file, I missed it...

Regards, Rudi.

extensive code required to do this.

check the Sysinternals forum: http://forum.sysinternals.com/topic18892.html

the handles.exe command line utility can be used to search for "serial", and will return pid of process

Sysinternals process explorer also has a handle find utility

When opening HYPERTRM.EXE, using COM1, this is the nice output:

C:\temp\handle>handle -a serial

hypertrm.exe       pid: 7920   type: Key             F4: HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM
hypertrm.exe       pid: 7920   type: File           170: \Device\Serial0
hypertrm.exe       pid: 7920   type: Key            198: HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM

That's exactly, what I was looking for, thanks! :)

Currently I use Handle.exe to enumerate the list of open file handles, but it would be useful to have a Function. So maybe one day I will have a go at tackling that Example rover found to AutoIt code. :)
