IIRC someone else had a similar problem some time ago with a trial version of Office. After installing the full product the problem went away.

It seems as if the trial versions of Office miss some features (COM support etc.)

According to Microsoft: "Office Starter consists of Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 only, reduced functionality versions of Microsoft Word and Excel with advertising."
