Run a second script to handle main script GUI changes

Building a network status monitor, and I want it to run updates on the monitor every 30 seconds or so (it will scan 70+ workstations for different information). To alleviate the main program, I want to be able to run a second program to perform the checks and interact with any necessary changes to the GUI of the first program. Is there a way I can make the second program communicate with the first program's GUI and manipulate it?
